How to opt out of Facebook’s facial recognition

In case you are not aware, Facebook has implemented a new facial recognition feature which is supposed to make it easier for you to tag friends in your photos. Is this really needed? I am a little skeptical of the reason and feel this is more “Big Brother” government related but maybe that’s just the conspiracy theorist part of me. I don’t really see why Facebook would invest all that money just so you can quickly tag your friends in photos.

Unfortunately, Facebook has set the default for you to be automatically enrolled with this feature and I wanted to share with you how you can quickly opt-out.

Steps to Opt-out of Facebook’s facial recognition feature.

  1. In the top right of your page, hit the drop-down arrow of your “Account” and then go to your Privacy Settings
  2. By default, you should then be on your “Custom” settings. Towards the bottom of this page is a text link that says “Customize Settings” – click it.
  3. On the next page, go to the section that says “Things Other Share” and click on the “Edit Settings” button next to “Suggest photos of me to friends”
  4. Change the “Enabled” to “Disabled” and then click the “Okay” button.

What are your thoughts on Facebook’s decision to implement the facial recognition feature?
